Or has it? Well, I’m going to go with officially yes because I have seen 4 crocuses or croci emerge in the front yard. Also, the soil is feeling thawed enough that I will soon venture out to dig up some sun chokes, carrots and parsnips from last year’s planting. On the goat end of things we have entered full bore production mode. We have greatly improved on some of our production technologies and are able to make more of both the caramel and cheese more efficiently and at a higher quality. We had a very exciting kidding season which lasted for the majority of March and kept us on our toes waiting for births to occur at any given moment. Most of the births went really well and we had quite a goat nursery going on for a few weeks there. We treated those who had tough births with a variety of homeopathic pills, herbal tinctures and sometimes straight up aspirin. They are all doing very well! We are keeping 12 doelings to raise and the rest have gone to good homes or will be raised for meat for the ethnic populations of Burlington. In the school I work in I’m not supposed to have favorites but I feel that on the farm I should be allowed to express my preference for certain quirky animals. So, Bette is my favorite. We had a tough time deciding to keep her because she was born a preme at only 4# which is almost 1/3-1/2 the weight of the others. But she was so cute!!! So, I put up a fight for her and she has stuck around. She is incredibly sparky and querky. I swear she even comes to me when I call her name.
In addition, we are greatly expanding our markets this season. Some new locations you will be able to find our products at are: Healthy Living, Shelburne Farms, City Market, Shelburne Market, Green Top, Rock Art, The Cabot Annex, Hunger Mountain Coop, The Upper Valley Coop, The Hanover Coop and Pinky’s. Please stop by one of those farms and help support our farm!
